November 25, 2025

Last week, Prof. Miloš Živković, Professor at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law and Of Counsel at Živković Samardžić (ZS Law), participated in the annual conference organized by the Association for Banking Law, where he moderated the closing panel titled “Corporate Governance in Banks – Is There Anything Fundamentally New?”.

The panel brought together leading experts from the banking and compliance sectors, including Ana Dimitrijević (Banca Intesa, Serbia), Kristina Buha (Stay Compliant, Serbia), and Varoujan Avedikian (Andersen Global, Armenia).

The session concluded the conference, attracting considerable attention from industry professionals and reaffirming the growing importance of strong governance standards in Serbia’s and the region’s financial sector. Throughout the discussion, the panelists examined how corporate governance principles in banks are evolving under increasing regulatory pressure, rapid digital transformation, and heightened supervisory scrutiny.

Moderating the conversation, Prof. Živković emphasized that while the foundational concepts of good governance remain unchanged, their practical implementation is increasingly shaped by new regulatory frameworks, elevated risk-management expectations, and operational challenges introduced by emerging technologies. He highlighted the importance of governance culture and effective internal controls as key elements in ensuring the long-term stability and resilience of financial institutions.

ZS Law remains committed to being one of the key market contributors and to supporting professional dialogue on regulatory, compliance, and governance matters across the financial industry.
